Aotearoa A-Z Prints

Our Aotearoa A-Z Ink Prints are finished, framed up and on our classroom wall.  They look awesome!! Call in to Room 6 and have a look at the completed display.

Room 6 Triathletes

Jacob, Regan,Blake, Bridgette, Rosa, Meg, Demi, Nick and Finn competed either individually or in a team at the recent Dunedin Primary and Intermediate Schools Triathlon.  Special mention must go to Demi, placed 1st in Individual Year 6 Girls, and Nick, placed 2nd in Individual Year 6 Boys.  Demi and Nick have now qualified for the Otago Primary and Intermediate Schools Triathlon.  We wish these top Room 6 athletes all the best!!

Maths in Room 6

We have started the year looking at Statistics in maths.

We have posed all kinds of questions and gathered lots of data so here are some facts and figures about us: 

There are 9 girls and 17 boys in our class.

9 of us live on a farm, 17 in a township/town.

9 of us travel to school by bus, 7 walk, 7 come by car and 3 bike to school.

23 of us play a sport, of that number 11 of us play more than three sports.

9 of us play a musical instrument.

25 of us have pets.

21 of us take part in the Outram School CAPES award scheme.

When asked about favourite school subjects, 14 of us like art, 7 like maths, 3 like reading and two like writing.

If we could choose to have a super power 5 of us would choose Invisibility,  12 the ability to fly,  3 of us would have super strength,  4 bendability and 2 of us superspeed.

Next Stage

Today we visited the workshop again to do some more block printing. Our first stage complete, we now needed to overlay our first print with a second layer of paint. We returned to our blocks and cut out the areas that we wanted to remain the initial colour and put on a different layer of paint.

Block Printing with Mrs Hunter

As part of our Turangawaewae inquiry we are making some kiwiana block prints to create a whole class artwork that we think will really reflect who we are and where we come from.

Here are our block prints piled up and ready to go.

We have everything ready: paints, rollers and of course washing up liquid to clean up afterwards!

Throughout this inquiry we are working on our Key Competency skills. In this lesson today we were 'Relating to Others': there was a lot of working together, taking turns and helping others.

and hey presto! A perfect print! Good team work too.
